“My love can't rescue you
Can't make your mountains move
Won't make your desert bloom
The way you want it to

My love can't heal the scars
You carved on your own heart
My love can't rescue you
The way you want it to
Not the way you want it to”

@johnnyswim, “Rescue You”
.
.

My mind always wanders while I’m driving. Today I was thinking about my own life, and that when we're not careful, life has a way of leaving little shards of disappointment lodged in places that we're not willing to trek.

Recently, I was talking to a friend. Literally sitting in the middle of an answered prayer, and while grateful, I found myself extremely guarded. I’d been praying for restoration for so long and in the moment, I couldn’t fully take it in because I was too afraid of being disappointed again.

I can’t speak for everyone, but for myself, sometimes I can be too smart for my own good. I ”know it all,” but when life hands me disappointment, I sometimes look to people to heal instead of running to God. & from my 26 years on this Earth, I know that to be true for most people. As I was listening to this song today, I realized that when we invert the lyrics to that song, the truth is that:

“Their love can’t rescue you
Won’t make your mountains move
Won’t make your desert bloom
The way you want it to

Their love can’t heal the scars
Life’s carved in your own heart
Their love can’t rescue you
The way you want it to”

There’s only One that can heal. He will USE people, but we can’t use them as a substitute for what is real. & I really don’t think it’s necessarily that we don’t trust God to do what He said He’d do, or that He can’t heal a situation. The problem is that we don’t trust Him to handle our hearts properly in the process of it. We don’t believe that He’ll defend us properly, and worse, we believe that He will leave us in the middle of it.

There is so much healing that happens when we find friendship, and become real and raw with the Lord. Not only can He handle our disappointment, He can heal it. We do not have to have it together to go to Him. He’s not even looking for that. He’s looking for us to be the most genuine form of ourselves. We will deal with hard things. The Word promises that, but it also promises that we won’t do it alone.

“When you go through deep waters, I WILL BE WITH YOU. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”
‭‭(Isaiah‬ ‭43:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Let us be a generation of people that will seek to know His personality, His friendship, and His heart. Let us be a people that will believe the good, because truth is, “there is no darkness in Him at all.” (1 John 1:5)

Receive the good that He has for you. Receive His love, His healing, and His friendship. He’s the greatest friend & healer.

“The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds NO sorrow with it.”
‭‭(Proverbs‬ ‭10:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬)
